Paris versus London

Who doesn't love supersonic rail travel? Eurostar, everyone's favorite way to get from London to Paris, has launched the latest ultrahip promotional scheme to hit the continent this year: a series of quarterly themed "rendez vous" between London and Paris.

Britpop has been feted with very private concert appearances by Divine Comedy, Badly Drawn Boy and Lily Allen, as well as British Fashion.

The newest edition is a DJ battle between the two capitals. The battle will take place on July 9th, and the duellists will be armed with iPods. The Gallic side consists of DJ Orgasmic & Para One, Brodinski, the Shoppings, Mouloud & Jey, and superstar blogger/DJ crew Fluokids. They will face off against Londoners Grecoroman, Girlcore, Trailer Trash and Pirate SoundSystem.

The location of the "Official Mix Battle" is still secret but the war is definitely declared...

Hip Hop Lives at Powerhouse Arena

This summer, ultra-hip bookstore, Powerhouse in Brooklyn hosts two exhibitions celebrating the hip hop culture.

The first is "Wild Style" The Sampler, a collection of photos and an accompanying book commemorating the 1982 classic film "Wild Style" by Charlie Ahearn which documents the early stages of B-boying, DJ'ing, MC'ing, and graffing.

The exhibit will be up until July 15th, but the celebration doesn't end there. On July 30th, Central Park Summerstage will host a "Wild Style" 25th anniversary reunion with Busy Bee, Cold Crush Brothers, Grandmaster Faz, Fab 5 Freddy, and a screening of the film.

Leslie in Wonderland

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

What can one possibly add about Leslie Feist? Her name is already on everybody’s lips and her voice in everybody’s head for weeks ... However, the ones who knew her before “The Reminder” have maybe noticed that something has changed. The pretty Canadian singer/songwriter had shown yesterday, at the New York Town Hall, that the princess she already was had become a queen. This crowning already appeared on her new record, but her live performance is definitely the best sign of it. Feist’s new kingdom is safer, more mature but equally poetic. As a Lewis Carroll novel, the world she created on stage during two hours (!) was full of unexpected and charming surprises. Yesterday, there were ghostly and sexy tap-dancers, smiling teenager choir, and Grizzly Bears in this dark theatre… Whether she is in New York, Toronto or Paris, it seems that Leslie has finally found her own wonderland...

David Lynch celebrated at the Parisian Foundation Cartier

David Lynch is now recognized as one of the most talented and important artists of these last decades. Elephant Man, The Straight Story, Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive, are names that float on cinema's landscape as memorable masterpieces. But the American filmmaker explores his surreal, nightmarish universe through other more confidential ways such as painting, music or photography. The Parisian Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art is now organizing a retrospective which gathers all the aspect of Lynch’s creative fever. The multifaceted artist himself has settled his photos, paintings, drawings, experimental films and audio creations from 1960 to now in this unique exhibition. And to immortalize this passing moment the Cartier Foundation will organize a series of concerts and events around Lynch’s exhibition, so will be published a bilingual book with conversations, and several essays that analyze his artworks within the context of the show. Let's hope the exhibition will be as volatile as its name implies, and that we will get a chance to see it travelling ...
