Hip Hop Lives at Powerhouse Arena

This summer, ultra-hip bookstore, Powerhouse in Brooklyn hosts two exhibitions celebrating the hip hop culture.
The first is "Wild Style" The Sampler, a collection of photos and an accompanying book commemorating the 1982 classic film "Wild Style" by Charlie Ahearn which documents the early stages of B-boying, DJ'ing, MC'ing, and graffing.
The exhibit will be up until July 15th, but the celebration doesn't end there. On July 30th, Central Park Summerstage will host a "Wild Style" 25th anniversary reunion with Busy Bee, Cold Crush Brothers, Grandmaster Faz, Fab 5 Freddy, and a screening of the film.

While you're at Powerhouse, be sure to stop by the Living Proof exhibit featuring the work of Magnum photographer David Alan Harvey. Harvey spent 2005 photographing local emcees in the South Bronx as well as hip hop stars such as Snoop Dogg, Nelly, and Ice Cube.

The opening reception for Living Proof takes place tonight at the Powerhouse.
